LE BAL CHALPOUPÉ

Description of image

The group formed in 2016 with a burning desire to make people dance until they dropped. It was initially created within the "Collectif" by Thomas Boudé, Brice Matha, Tanguy Bernard, Simon Lacouture, and Gabriel Druot. It was born from a need to explore the concept of the traditional dance gathering (*bal*) in our own way—drawing on our own influences and a fixed lineup—by combining musical experiences rooted in jazz and improvisation, the legacy of the Uzeste *bal*, and creolized musical styles. From the outset, this artistic vision met with a very positive response from local audiences. For several years, the group’s reputation spread exclusively through word of mouth. Buoyed by this enthusiasm, the band has performed in venues ranging from intimate music cafés to national festivals. The energy of live performance and the connection with the audience have always been central, unifying elements for the group. After two albums and over 250 concerts, the group continues its creative journey; since 2023, the lineup has consisted of Thomas Boudé on guitar and keyboards, Brice Matha on saxophones and synths, Tanguy Bernard on vocals, Jesus Alarcone Herrera on percussion and vocals and Pierre Alain Tocanier on drums.
