Mbali Makhoba's story embodies the spirit of modern South Africa. Growing up in Cape Town's Imizamo Yethu township, she has overcome significant challenges to pursue her passion for music.

Mbali's deep connection to South African musical traditions and contemporary artistry perfectly aligns with Freshlyground's vision. Her addition not only represents a musical evolution but also continues our commitment to sharing South Africa's vibrant culture with audiences worldwide.

The band, now a six-piece ensemble, is set to begin touring in Europe in the summer of 2026. Promising performances that will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences. This new era maintains Freshlyground's signature sound while embracing fresh creative directions under Makhoba's vocal leadership.

The band recorded a new album in Zimbabwe. Multi time Grammy Award winner JB Arthur came on board for this project as producer. The first single called "Jabula“ was released in November 2025 and received over 200 000 views within short time.
