Captain Planet is the alter ego of DJ and producer Charlie B. Wilder, a musical explorer who transforms sounds from across the globe into vibrant, dance-floor-ready grooves. His music fuses Afrobeat, Latin rhythms, reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop into a seamless blend of analog soul and electronic energy - a style he proudly calls Gumbo Funk.

Wilder’s journey began with an early love for hip-hop and vinyl digging, evolving into a fascination with global sounds. His international music radio show Passport on WNYU helped shape his ear for cross-cultural rhythms and led him to experiment with sampling techniques that flipped traditional “world” records into something entirely new. After years spent cutting his teeth in New York’s competitive club scene, Captain Planet released his debut album Cookin’ Gumbo (Bastard Jazz Records, 2011). 

The record earned critical acclaim, sold thousands of copies, and landed placements on major TV shows including Orange Is the New Black, Silicon Valley, CSI: NY, Entourage, and The Bridge. Since then, Captain Planet has released five more albums — Esperanto Slang (2014), Through the Wire (2015), Night Visions (2017, with Chico Mann), No Visa (2020), and Sounds Like Home (2023) - solidifying his reputation as one of the leading voices in globally inspired electronic music.

His official and unofficial remixes span a wide range of artists, from Erykah Badu, Little Dragon, Mayer Hawthorne, Nicola Cruz, and Alice Russell to legendary labels like Fania Records and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura.

His breakout single “Un Poquito Más” (feat. Chico Mann) earned over 2.5 million streams and was featured in national campaigns for Target and Honda. Their collaboration album Night Visions received critical praise, with The New York Times naming its title track among the “Best Songs of the Week.” The duo’s live performances - including Boiler Room Sessions and KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic - further showcased Captain Planet’s dynamic global sound.

Beyond the studio, Wilder curates the influential music blog MixtapeRiot.com, a trusted destination for DJs, tastemakers, and music lovers seeking fresh underground grooves and exclusive remixes. With each release, Captain Planet continues to blur boundaries between genres and cultures - proving that rhythm is a universal language and the dance floor is where the world connects.

His new album « DIG » was released in December 2025. On his 6th full-length album, Los Angeles producer and dj, Captain Planet takes direct aim at the dance floor, bringing his unique blend of global music styles and high energy dance music powerfully into focus.
